Tamra's Story
Tamra is a Registered Nurse and Doula with over 20 years experience in both clinical-patient care and childbirth education helping families through pregnancy, hands-on labor coaching, support and psychosocial experiences during their childbirth year.
Like many young people she didn’t know what she wanted ‘to do for a living’ but when she walked into a Birth Fair in 1996 in Santa Cruz California she’s been a childbirth junkie ever since. Humboldt County, Arcata California is where she learned the most about childbirth. She became a doula and in 1998 witnessed her first birth. It was jaw dropping, inspirational! Learning the importance of strength, power and love for childbirth then has shaped her present knowledge over the past decades. In 2002 Tamra graduated with a BS in Nursing from Humboldt State University.
She married the love of her life in 1999 and she and Joel Pace had their first born child in 2003 in Arcata, California at Mad River Hospital, Trillium Birthing Suites. This momentous journey brought them to San Luis Obispo County in 2004 and she has been working at French Hospital Medical Center, Family Birthing Center since. She first did bedside nursing and in 2009 became the Childbirth Educator Coordinator. Missing the ‘real maquo’ she became a Certified Doula, again in 2015. Her TLC Doulas brought on many beautiful births and experiences to help create Comfort Kits, items for the childbirth year.
When Covid hit in 2020 she taught her childbirth classes at French Hospital on Zoom. During this time the wonderful idea dropped into her lap of a Virtual Reality program for the childbirth year, thus DoulaVR is born! She has been diligently working on this powerful application since 2023 and now it is a Reality! DoulaVR is yours for your childbirth year!
Our Process
The DoulaVR team blends clinical knowledge with immersive technology to recreate the kind of guidance parents receive from a trained doula. We research, test, and verify each technique to make sure it reflects best practices in birth support.Then we design VR experiences that deliver this support in a calm, accessible, and easy-to-follow format. The result is a tool that adapts to your pace, your needs, and the real moment you’re in.
